WESTFIELD — City residents will have an opportunity to weigh in at two public hearings on amendments to the city’s lighting ordinance. The hearings are scheduled for April 4 at 7 p.m. during the Planning Board meeting, and on April 6 at 7 p.m. during the City Council meeting.

The current lighting ordinance was adopted in 2017. According to Ward 6 Councilor William Onyski, the ordinance was a response to public outcry against lights installed at Roots Athletic Center that impacted surrounding residences. Exterior Flood Lights

Onyski, who made the motion to set the public hearings during the City Council meeting on March 16, said at the time the ordinance was created, nobody consulted with Westfield Gas & Electric.
