That kind of bad day pales to the experience of an exotic car dealership team who had to explain how a $400,000 Ferrari Roma sports car ended up at the bottom of a lift shaft.

The dealership in Palm Beach, Florida, uses the lift to move cars to the upper floor of the showroom. However, according to images on the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Facebook page, the unfortunate Roma seems to have crashed through the upstairs gate, landing on the elevator car below.

While damage to the car is significant, there were no injuries reported.

Rescue crews had to isolate a petrol leak from the car before calling in a heavy-lift tow truck to extricate the stricken Ferrari.

As noted on the Facebook post, (the tow truck's) 45-foot (14m) boom and multiple 50,000-pound (23-tonne) winches were used in the recovery.

The Ferrari Roma is priced from $409,888 before options and on-road costs in Australia – before the Argento Nurburgring (silver) paint and Rosso Ferrari (red) interior is added from the options list.

It is powered by a twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 engine with 456kW and 760Nm – equivalent to more than four Toyota Corolla Hybrid hatchbacks.

Add that to the four-hour recovery operation and a still-damaged elevator system, and you can be sure that someone is going to be on kitchen clean-up duty for a long, long time...
